you were going to kill it!!

Reliving a bit of my childhood tonight. I’m watching “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown”. Of course I have a signed document, even though it isn’t notarized.

Of course cartoons of the 1960’s were sometimes written for adults as well as children. I remember watching these shows year after year, but my parents would also watch. When they stopped showing them as often, my wife and I got the Charlie Brown cartoons on Video. I’m not sure, but I think I’ve seen each show at least 20 times. It could be more, but I don’t remember watching as much in High School or College.

Good shows, good humor make a timeless show.

Anyone have a favorite childhood cartoon?

  1. Did you mean favorite cartoon holiday specials or favorite cartoons to watch on a weekly or daily basis?
    I had both.
My favorite holiday specials were the Garfield Halloween and Christmas specials, and I liked the Rudolph and Frosty claymation Christmas specials. There was also a cartoon called “Twas the Night Before Christmas” about a mouse and a Christmas clock that was pretty good. I enjoyed the Charlie Brown ones a little bit, but at some point, they became boring, probably because I didn’t get the humor. I bet I would like them better as an adult, I haven’t tried…

  2. Hard to say. The Charlie Brown ones were definitely memorable, and I agree about the Christmas ones as well. A normal cartoon series I recall enjoying was Dungeons & Dragons, but that may be because I saw most of them again a few years ago on the ‘net. Oh, can’t forget the uber-classic, Scooby Doo! I’m told these days their adventures really do fall into the realm of the supernatural, but back in my day all the mysteries had more logical explanations- real mysteries for the crew.

  3. relatively speaking

I liked watching some of the “Looney Tunes” characters–like the Tasmanian Devil or Tweety Bird.

And while it isn’t a cartoon, I get a kick out of “The Muppet Christmas Carol”

  4. I DVRed Great Pumpkin. I LOVE the Charlie Brown CLASSIC specials. The new ones don’t stand up at all well. One of these years, poor Linus will see the Great Pumpkin. Like last years Simpson’s Treehouse of Terror when Milhouse set the Great Pumpkin loose.

My favorite holiday specials: Rudolph, Frosty, THE GRINCH (no one mentioned the Grinch?) and John Denver and the Muppets Christmas Together. I only saw it once but can remember the 12 Days of Christmas. And Emmett Otter’s Jug Band Christmas.

  5. I’m a big claymation fan, myself. My favorite is Nester, the Long Eared Christmas Donkey. Not as well known as the others, but one of my very favorites, none the less. I own a copy and watch it multiple times every year. Another favorite is the Little Drummer Boy, however, I have not seen that in many years either.

  6. How The Grinch Stole Christmas, with the Grinch voiced by Boris Karloff.
It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.
    The Great Mouse Detective

And a new favorite, The Thief And The Cobbler. Johnathan Winters as the thief, Matthew Broderick as the cobbler, and Vincent Price as the evil vizier. Kind of an Aladdin story, but no genie.

  7. Looney Tunes- forgot about that one even though I have checked out some of the collections in the past from our library. Another classic for sure.
