In the land of Dinosaurs

I heard today that author and screen writer Michael Crichton died Tuesday.

I did like the movies based on his books (at least the ones I saw), but I really enjoyed the books. Especially the Jurassic Park books. His books kept me on the edge for the entire read. So much better than the movies. I think that is because my imagination is so much more creative than any digital or Hollywood effect.

Another loss in the creative world.

  1. I heard today on the radio about Michael Crichton – I didn’t even know he was ill. Of his works, I only read the novel Jurassic Park, but I thought it was SO much better than the movie! I agree – it kept me on the edge of my seat in a way the movie never did. Read it about 15 years ago; it’d be worth revisiting if I ever get the opportunity.

  2. That is one of the reasons I was leery of the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings movies. Happily, the lived up to expectations (for the most part).. I agree, the Jurassic Park novel was far better than the movies. Sadly, I had not heard of Mr. Crichton’s demise. Movies always take away from the imagination of the reader. PLUS… has anyone ever tried to use an old movie to pass a test on assigned reading for school? Never worked.

  3. Jurassic Park was my only journey into Crichton’s creativity. I enjoyed the movie so I read the book later. Sadly, I remember next to nothing of the book. So I guess while the books are nearly always richer than the movies, it’s the visual and auditory experiences of the movies that we remember. At least this was clearly the case here with me. Maybe if I had read the book first…?
